One of my favorite worship songs is “The Blessing” by Kari Jobe & Cody Carnes.
It is a song that sweeps you up in its encouragement, warmth, and declaration of God’s love, and the live version is, in a word, powerful.
One of my favorite parts comes after the third bridge, when the words “He is for you” are repeated eight times. Each one seems to drive the message deeper, build you up higher, as if each repetition is meant to ask, “Are you listening?!”
This part of the song has always given me goosebumps, but upon a recent listen I heard it in a deeper, more meaningful way—as if the repetition finally hit hard enough to strike gold in me.
He is for you.
He is for you.
He is for you.
The words are a nod to Romans 8:31, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
The song “Our God” by Chris Tomlin uses this same verse in its bridge.
And if our God is for us, then who could ever stop us?
And if our God is with us, then what could stand against?
Both give me a feeling of capability, of meaning, of grit.
But it is those two words that stand out to me.
For us.
For you.
For me.
This is a reminder that God’s plans are always for us.
He is always for us.
He is on our team!!
So no matter how lost we might be, no matter how far we might feel from God at times, no matter how confusing a situation, loss, heartbreak, or lingering silence might be, we can be confident that God is for us. That whatever he is doing is for good. That he is forever and always on our side.
At no point will God lose his way and fall prey to selfishness, greed, or vanity.
At no point will God turn on us, led us astray, betray us, or abandon us.
He is for you.
He is for you.
He is for you.
He is for you.
He is fighting for you, he is fighting with you.
He is for you.
Let it dig deeper and deeper until it rings true. Until it is louder than all other calls for doubt or fear. Until it becomes the battle cry that leads you forward and forward and forward.
He is for you!
And if He is for us, then what could stand against?
Amen to this Kim!❣️❣️
